Well, I have always been an entrepreneur at heart, and it is something that I am going to be doing in the next few months. I am finally going to start out my photography business, and I am putting all of the pieces of the puzzle together right now. I am in search of a good web hosting service, and I am also looking for a decent web design I can purchase. I have a few friends who do this on the side, and I may end up using their pages. I haven't set up a pricing matrix yet, and I am not really worried about that now, I am just trying to get the beginning stages done.
I met an old friend through facebook, and she has an 18 year old daughter that is going to Harvard this fall. She is in drama, and she needs some new head shots, so I volunteered to photograph her for free. I told my friend that she can have the digital images, and if they don't come out good, she can just scrap them. I will be allowed to use the pictures as marketing and on the website though, so it is a win win situation all around! I am meeting her for dinner tomorrow night to discuss the details, and I am excited to say the least. Heck, nothing may come of this at all. I may end up getting a few clients, then realizing that I either don't have the talent to be a good photographer, or that I don't like it, but I am going to go for it anyway. I owned my own business when I was 20, and that one crashed and burned due to the Perfect Storm. Now, that I am 38 and a couple decades wiser, I will give it another go. If this one fails I will pick up the pieces and start another on somewhere in the future, maybe a real business VC backed in the laser and optics industry.
I have always set goals for myself to reach, and starting my own photography business is one of them. I was also planning on going rock climbing for the first time this Sunday, but my plans have been put on hold for a little while because of the Tall Ships in Boston. Damn, all my weekends are filling up really fast, and the summer is disappearing very quickly. Boot camp starts next week, Philadelphia that weekend, Western Mass this weekend for a graduation party, Tall Ships, there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done, but that is a good thing!
I hope all is well with my two readers, and I will post the website when I get it up and running!
Peace!
