Will the GOP ever get it, or are they destined to lay waste to the scrap heap of American politics. I think about this, about their stances on issues, and about life itself when it comes to politics, their evolution and lack there of. In terms of anything in life, be it life itself, business, towns, politics, religion, or anything in general, you need to evolve in order to survive. It is what the beauty of life itself is, and what Darwin found out over 100 years ago, that in order to survive as a species, you need to evolve as the landscape changes around you.

This is something the GOP still doesn't seem to understand, and all of their propaganda outlets, I believe are actually hurting them. I am a constant listener to hate radio, otherwise known as right wing propaganda. There are three different stations I can turn to on the radio in order to hear a right wing opinion in the Boston area, and I will listen to all of them at one time or another. They all rally against the same things, get their talking points from the same people, and they actually think they are making headway with people, when in reality, they are actually hurting their cause with their tired and old rhetoric.

Here is the reality of the situation. . .the GOP was handed a budget in a surplus, and the world at peace. They presided over the largest intelligence failure in our countries history (well, maybe second, Pearl Harbor may have been worse), watched a city drown, got us involved in a war that had nothing to do with the people who attacked us on 9-11, and left our country in the worst economical position since the depression. The budget surplus was turned into a budget deficit, along with their lax accounting practices which hid the real expenses, and now they have no answers. They are rallying about Obama spending money, yet it is the ONLY option to mitigate the failed economy that was handed over to him. Their talking points? We are spending too much money? Really???? Where was that voice over the past 6 years? Where was the call for correct accounting? Where was the cries for spending over $1trillion on Iraq?

Here is the one question republicans hate to hear, and one they have no answer for. Why is it "good" for our country to spend over $1Trillion dollars to rebuild Iraq and fight a war, but "bad" for our country and reckless spending when we spend the same money inside our own country to rebuild things like the roads and infrastructure? Why is spending money to get us out of the position that we are in now a bad thing when almost every single economist who is not politically motivated agrees it is needed to get the credit markets unfrozen?

Until they start to change their attitude, and actually start to come up with solutions, they will become an afterthought on the political landscape. I have spoken for years about the rift coming in the GOP, and how religion was going to split the party in two, well it is happening right now. The moderate republicans are now no longer republicans, but say they are libertarians, while the religious right is becoming more vitriolic and hate filled every day. America has changed, the pendulum has swung, and if the GOP doesn't face reality soon, they will be an afterthought in politics. I for one don't see them breaking their shell any time soon, because when you isolate yourself from differing opinion, you come to the conclusion that you are always right, and that is what they are facing right now. Do they have the intestinal fortitude to look at the facts, and see what they are facing? I don't think so, but we will find out in a few years.
